Greetings, readers!
For several weeks we’ve been sharing canine wisdom on various topics, and now we’d like to hear from YOU.
Just when we think we’ve seen and heard it all in the doggie world, someone comes up with a real doozie – so give us your best shot! Got a wild and crazy obsessive pup chewing holes in the carpet? Can’t seem to get your housedog to mind his manners when company comes to visit? Is your lovable hound a back yard Houdini? Or a shy guy who’s struggling to come out of his shell?
Whatever the case may be, we invite you to submit your training problems or behavior questions, and we’ll address them in future blogs. That’s right – your pup can be a Patch star! No issue too big or too small!
To raise the stakes, we’re offering a FREE 30-minute consult to one lucky winner who takes our Stump the Trainer Challenge before 5 p.m. July 13. Ask a question and you’re automatically entered … So tell your friends and don’t hold back!

How do I get my labradoodle to stop wimpering loudly when on a walk and we approach another dog. Then when we get closer she growls/barks madly?

I have a five month old puppy who can't seem to control his bladder whenever he gets excited. Is there anyway to help him though, or is it just a matter of him growing out of it?

I have a 3 year Cocker Spaniel that goes crazy when ever he hears our guinea pigs. Then he will stand beside their cage, and whimper, and bark. Is there something I can do so he knows they are family, and not food?

I have a 7 month old golden/lab mix that will start barking, jumping, and even mouthing at me if I tell him no or take something away from him that he wants. It's almost like he is a two year old throwing a temper tantrum! The only way to get him to stop is to give him a different toy, but then I feel like I am rewarding that behavior. I don't know what to do!

I have a 1 year old boxer who HATES his kennel. We've tried feeding him in it, crate games, medication...basically everything. When we leave him out he destroys the house, so that's not an option either. What can I do to not have him be a soaked to the bone (in slobber/drool) mess every time I get home?

I have a schnauzer poodle mix that likes some men but not others. She will bark and try to herd men but others she likes. She has exhibited this behavior both in our house and at Petco. I have tried to get the men at Petco that she was barking at to talk to her and sit at her level and not stare. I dropped the lead (within distance of being able to step on the lead if necessary) to let her make the decision to approach or not - no luck - she continued to fear bark. Other men in Petco could walk by say hi and pet her and she was fine with them - didn't matter the age. Any ideas?

I have a boxer pup named Indy...is that not alone enough to win the prize. Our Boxer chews up and eats anything soft we put in her kennel so she has to lay on the hard plastic. Is there a way to correct this behavior? She goes in her kennel without a problem, but if there is something inside, it is getting destroyed and eaten.

I have a 5 yr old Border Collie named Rose who gets repeated GI obstructions (yes, the white one in Scott's competition agility class). Last year she was hospitalized at ISU and caused a great deal of internal damage. Despite keeping everything in her environment picked up: rocks, mulch, sticks, bones, random pieces of plastic Rose was hospitalized again last month. This time she had a bone chunk that'd she'd dug up stuck in her pylorus and had a 3 hr surgery. The vet said he thinks she's run out of chances. Is there a way to keep Rose from killing herself? I'm already shopping for a basket muzzle for her.

Why does my dog snort when excited? Sounds like she's hyperventaling or something. My 2 dogs sit and bark at each other until one nips at the other. How can I stop that? Also how do I keep them from running out the door loose? Sorry I have a lot of questions! I have a 1 1/2 year old laso jackapooo and a small dog that was a stray not sure breed or age

My dog gets in the pond at the Ankeny Dog Park and will not come out. The only way to get him out is to be lucky and catch him. This is hard when he runs 35 mins a hour around a huge pond. :) Or he swims to middle. I don't let he in by choice he got in because someone was not paying attention and let him in. I have done lots of research on this and have some ideas and some training ideas. I would enjoy hearing your advice Renee. Thanks For Your Time, Beth

She goes to doggy daycare and is fine there as far as we know we just want to be able to take her everywhere we go. Tried all training methods possible. She has had training at your facility. Thanks!

2 years ago I bought a 4 yr. old Shetland Sheepdog from a breeder who told me she was housebroken and didn't bark. After "Liza" stole my heart I learned the breeder had her "bark softened" and in deed she isn't housebroken. In fact she is scared to be outside and when I take her out and stop she hides beneath my wheelchair and has only by accident peed outside. Luckily she does all of her "business" in my bathroom and I have learned to never go in without checking first. A year ago she started going out to the living room and my roommate, who cleans up the floor checks and sure enough she has left a mess. Our veterinarian has said she will probably never be housebroken because even though the breeder wasn't operating a puppy mill, "Liza" didn't have the attention she needed. Any tips?
