Parkinson's Disease Foundation Presents National Online Seminar on Swallowing and Dental Challenges in Parkinson's on Tuesday, January 14

Expert Information for People Touched by Parkinson’s Disease and Health Professionals

WHAT:  “Parkinson's: Swallowing and Dental Challenges” is the third in a series of six interactive online and phone seminars, or PD ExpertBriefings, hosted by the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF).  It will cover the potential swallowing difficulties and dental challenges related to Parkinson’s disease.  Health care professionals may apply for continuing education credits.

WHO:  The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation® (PDF®) supports the scientific research and ideas that will improve the lives and futures of people who are touched by Parkinson’s disease.  Since its founding in 1957, PDF has invested more than $142 million in research, education and advocacy programs.  This PD ExpertBriefing will be co-presented by Michelle R. Ciucci, Ph.D., University of Wisconsin, a speech language pathologist, and Jane Busch, D.D.S., a practicing fitness instructor and former dentist who lives with Parkinson's.

WHY:  Many people with Parkinson's disease experience challenges with swallowing and maintaining dental health. While these difficulties may be overlooked at checkups, there are strategies that can help. This PD ExpertBriefing will provide practical tips for evaluating and treating swallowing issues and for maintaining oral hygiene. As many as one million Americans live with Parkinson's disease, a chronic and progressive movement disorder for which there is no cure.

WHEN:  Tuesday, January 14, 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM ET.

WHERE:  Participants can view the PD ExpertBriefing online through PDF’s website or listen via phone, using a unique toll-free number provided at registration.

HOW:  To participate in this seminar online or by phone, visit www.pdf.org/parkinsononline or contact PDF at (800) 457-6676.  Pre-registration is highly recommended.  Online viewers will be able to ask Ms. Ciucci and Ms. Busch questions during the second half of the seminar.

CEUs:  Continuing education credits are available for health care professionals through PDF's sponsorship of the American Society on Aging.  Participants have up until 30 days to view the seminar and apply online for CEUs.
