Cooler Temperatures in Store this Week

Urbandale may get some rain this week, but don't expect a drought buster.

Federal workers who haven’t been furloughed in the government shutdown will have the day off for Columbus Day and should be able to spend it outside without fear of getting wet, according to the National Weather Service in Des Moines.

Temperatures are expected in the mid-60s Monday, with a slight – 10 percent – chance of precipitation after 5 p.m. It’ll be breezy, with a southeast wind 7 to 12 mph increasing to 13 to 18 mph in the afternoon, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Overnight, rain chances increase to 80 percent, with showers and thunderstorms before 3 a.m., then a chance of showers. Rainfall totals of between a quarter and half inch are possible.
