Weird Rewind: Jell-O Wrestling, Allegedly Drunk GOP Voter, Romney Protest Sponsored by the Number 47

Iowa is a not a weird place, but lots of weird things happen here.

Editor's Note: Each weekend Patch brings you the top weird, or strange news from around Iowa. Here's a quick recap on what you may have missed last weekend.

Political rhetoric from both major parties is running high right now, but can the line keep you out of jail?

The answer, for a Council Bluffs woman, is no. Police were called to P.F. Chang’s China Bistro at Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines to eject Charlene Idelle Hunziker for upsetting other diners with her political rant about last week's presidential debate and Muslims. She was charged with public intoxication and harassment of public officials.

And another head-scratcher from politics.

A week after being threatened for extinction by was clucking mad at a campaign appearance by the GOP nominee in rural Dallas County not far from Urbandale. Characters from the children's show chanted anti-Wall Street lyrics at the cars full of Romney supporters entering the rally site.

What is harmless tradition and what is unacceptable?

That's what Cedar Falls residents are debating after a YouTube video showed Cedar Falls High School girls wrestling in Jell-O while hundreds of students looked on. Superintendent Mike Wells called the event, "unacceptable." Some students and parents, however, defended the Jell-O wrestling, saying it's a harmless homecoming tradition.

In Ames, voters are wondering if He was either caught cheating or forgot to wash his hands before the latest debate with 4th District candidate Christie Vilsack. He was filmed with a small amount of writing on his left hand while debating; notes were forbidden. A spokesman said they were likely from the day before.

And it wouldn't be Weird Iowa without some police blotter items.

First up, a Waukee teenager reportedly picked the wrong place to get high last week: the parking lot of Waukee Elementary School. Police said they smelled marijuana coming from a vehicle parked in the school parking lot and charged the 16-year-old boy inside the car with possession of a controlled substance.

In other police news, an Ankeny mother enlisted police to help teach her son a lesson. Mom reported her 11-year-old son took her debit card and purchased $71 worth of video games online. Police gave the boy a talking-to; no charges were filed.

An Iowa City man who lives under a bridge was sought out by police, who had been alerted that he had purchased two packages of pseudophedrine in two days -- a key ingredient in meth. Police found  and charged him with felony possession of materials used to produce methamphetamine.

This next item is weird because it's a surprising turn on the traditional art collection.

A collection of pastels at Tom Perrine's Johnston business, Frame Works, is remarkable at first glance. Then you hear who's responsible for the art, and the collection takes on a whole new dimension. Perrine is featuring works of art from inmates at the Mitchellville women's prison as part of a show that raises a small amount of money for the artists and more for the victims of their crimes.
