Winter Storm Q Update: Urbandale Library Closing Early, Flights Delayed

Winter Storm Q is expected to hit central Iowa later this afternoon.

Snow is officially falling in Urbandale and the rest of the Des Moines metro.

The Urbandale Public Library will close at 5 p.m. tonight.

Urbandale Schools will release early Thursday: High school dismissing at 1:00pm;Middle schools dismissing at 1:30pm; Elementary dismissing at 2:00pm

Des Moines Christian School announced they will be dismissing classes two hours early.

Urbandale's St. Pius Church has canceled 6 p.m. Mass.

Flights Cancelled

If you're planning to escape Iowa today via the Des Moines International Airport, you might want to check your flight status.

Several flights out of Des Moines are already cancelled or delayed because of Winter Storm Q.

KCCI forecasters are now estimating the snow storm will start closer to 3 or 4 p.m. in central Iowa.

Urbandale, the Des Moines metro and other parts of Iowa have officially been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning, according to the National Weather Service in Des Moines. The warning is in effect from 3 p.m. Thursday until noon Friday.

The city of Urbandale is also prepared for the impending snow storm.

Crews have pre-treated and salted roads, the Des Moines Register reported.

Crews plan to work through the night Thursday, even calling in additional help if needed.
