Winter Weather Advisory: When Will Winter Storm Saturn Bring Snow, Freezing Rain?

More winter weather is on the way for Urbandale.

A second wave of winter weather is expected to hit the Des Moines metro this afternoon.

Winter Storm Saturn could drop just one or two inches of snow on the metro, while the northeastern part of the state could see three to nine inches.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the Urbandale area until noon today.

STORM TRENDS... THE SNOW HAS ENDED ACROSS THE ADVISORY AREA ALTHOUGH PATCHY LIGHT FREEZING DRIZZLE MAY LINGER UNTIL TEMPERATURES APPROACH OR JUST EXCEED FREEZING TOWARD MIDDAY. ANY ADDITIONAL ICE ACCUMULATIONS WOULD BE MINOR.

LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ONCE AGAIN THIS EVENING.



Early Monday evening, rain will switch to freezing drizzle or snow across southern Iowa.

The advisory calls for gusty winds on Tuesday morning when more snow may develop.

Beginning Wednesday the forecast shows a warm up.

Here’s the seven-day forecast for Urbandale from the National Weather Service:

Today: Snow likely, possibly mixed with freezing rain before 9 a.m., then rain or freezing rain likely between 9 a.m. and noon, then rain likely afternoon. Cloudy, with a high near 36. East southeast wind 7 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Tonight: Freezing rain before 9 p.m., then snow. Low around 26. East northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Tuesday: Snow likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 31. Windy, with a north northwest wind 11 to 16 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. Windy, with a north northwest wind 11 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 29.

Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 15.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38.

Thursday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 28.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 43.

Friday night: A chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41.

Saturday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30.

Sunday: A 40 percent chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 45.
