How Police Connected Urbandale Middle School Teacher to Reported Sex Abuse Against Teen Girls

Investigators say an Urbandale middle school teacher schemed his way into a sexual relationship with two teen girls - one 13 years old and the other 14 years old, according to a KCCI report citing police records. 

Benjamin Joseph Hoffman, 23, of West Des Moines, is charged with 11 counts of third-degree sexual abuse and related charges after an Urbandale student, 13, and a former student, 14, from Norwalk alleged Hoffman forced them to have sex.

Hoffman, a language arts teacher at the middle school, allegedly texted one of the girls threatening to kill himself, provided alcohol and met with one of the girls socially on at least one occasion at his apartment, according to the KCCI report. 

This all allegedly began back in May, according to the report.
