Urbandale Police Name Man Who Died in Fire

Aaron Chulu, 39, died in the fire in his home Saturday morning.

Urbandale Police released the name of the man who died in a house fire at 8041 Dellwood Drive Saturday morning.

Aaron Chulu, 39, died of carbon monoxide poisoning, according to a press release issued by Urbandale police this afternoon.

Chulu's wife and children were able to get out of the house. On Saturday, police spokesman Randy Peterson said interviews at the scene suggested that Chulu intentionally set the fire.

Fire Chief Jerry Holt said the fire started in the basement and moved up the walls to the first and second floors of the house. Although the exterior of the house looked fine, he estimated $100,000 to $115,000 damage inside.

Holt said Chulu's death is the first house fire death in Urbandale in at least 14 years.
