Giant Logo from Mitt Romney's Urbandale Campaign Office For Sale on Craigslist

The piece of Iowa-shaped steel carved with Mitt Romney’s campaign logo -- which was used for rallies around the state -- is now up for grabs on Craigslist, free to anyone who can haul it away, the Des Moines Register reports.

“This political memorabilia is free to the first person who has the equipment and manpower to remove it from a location in an Urbandale, Iowa office park,” the online ad says. “The heavy and large steel sign was used as the backdrop in a Romney appearance and ad during the 2012 campaign.”

A check at noon showed the sign listing was flagged for removal from Craigslist.

Workers at Giese Manufacturing in Dubuque made the laser-cut sign for a campaign rally at the metal fabrication shop on Nov. 7, 2011, the day Romney began his one-year countdown to Election Day, the Register reported.

Romney told the audience: “About a year from now, you’re going to wake up and turn on the TV and it’s going to say one of two things: One, it’s going to say President Obama has been re-elected to a second term. If that’s the case, you know what the next four years look like – they look like the last four years we’ve just endured. The alternative, of course, is that you turn on your TV about a year from now and instead of seeing the Obama camp celebrating you’ll see something on the TV that says, ‘Mitt is it.’ And I will have won.”

Images of the steel sign appeared on TV and in print in national news stories about the event.

Months later, Romney’s bid for the presidency collapsed. Campaign aides have closed his Iowa headquarters at 2775 86th St. in Urbandale; the sign is apparently a leftover.
