Last Chance: Donate Clothing for ESL Drive Through Friday

Clothing and other items will be distributed to ESL students and their families Oct. 4-5.

There’s still time – but not much – to donate clothing to Urbandale’s ESL students and their families, the Des Moines Register reports.

Donations will be accepted through Friday for the 15th annual ESL clothing drive at Karen Acres Elementary School, 3500 74th St. The clothing will be distributed Oct. 4-5.

Organizer Kristin Pawlowski said donations to serve about 50 to 70 families have been accumulating since early June. At this point, only children’s clothing is needed.

The school district serves a significant number of Bosnian, Latino and African students.

Pawlowski, who started the drive 15 years ago, said the event has grown beyond what she expected. “It was one of those things that was never meant to be as big as it got but it snowballed because of the need.”

Besides children’s clothing and winter wear, donations of backpacks, bedding and pillows, books, games and toys are also welcome.

Donations should be bagged or boxed, and should include labels listing the contents. They can be left at the Karen Acres main office. Questions should be directed to Pawlowski at pawlowskik@urbandale.k12.ia.us.
