Long-Term Plan Addresses Urbandale School District Growth, Student Performance

While the plan passed, one board member raised objections to it, saying the plan contains language that is too dense.

A plan to lead the Urbandale school district into the next five years was approved at a board meeting recently, the Des Moines Register reports.

The plan includes ways to guide school district growth and also sets goals for student proficiency, the article said. The plan also calls for increasing enrollment at the high school in advanced placement and dual-credit courses, among others.

Despite the plan's approval, board member Jeff Farrell had objections concerning the language in it. According to the Register, he said it contained jargon only trained educators would understand.

Farrell asked board members to reject the document until the district’s staff rewrote it in clearer language. Board member Cate Newberg also voted to reject the plan, the article said.

The plan passed in a 4-2 vote.
