Urbandale Parks & Rec Summer Programs Guide Coming Soon

Get the kids away from the TV this summer and take advantage of Urbandale Parks & Recreation's summer programs.

The program guide will be available April 9. Registration for summer programs will begin the same day.

The 44-page guide features classes and activities for youth, adults and seniors ranging from arts, crafts and computers to music, nature, health and fitness.

Here is a sneak peek at some of the many programs available this summer, courtesy of a recent media release:

Kids Kamp

• Ages: 6-10
• These weekly camps start June 3 and run through August 9. Children will enjoy a “theme of the week” with a variety of activities such as crafts, games, sports, board games, swimming at the pool, guests speakers, and weekly field trips. Registration deadline is the week prior to each camp. Camps fill quickly, so register early.

Youth in Parks

• Ages: 10-13
• Mornings involved community service projects and afternoons include recreation activities. The program offers leadership development, environmental awareness and team building experiences.

Ricochet on the Ropes for Middle School Ages

• Includes a week at the ISU Adventure Learning Center challenge course, a service project, nutrition and wellness information pertaining to leadership, a video shoot and a Celebration Day on Friday.

Facilitator in Training for Ages 13-17

• Ages: 13-17
• A four-week co-ed experience designed to provide leadership opportunities that prepare teens to become staff members at the Adventure Learning Center as well as productive members of their home community.

Printed copies of the guide will be available in the April 9 edition of the Urbandale Register, as well as at the Urbandale Parks & Recreation office, Public Library, Senior Center and Public Swimming Pool.
