Urbandale Library's 'Give Care' Event Attracts Many

The third year of the event at the library yielded even greater results.

A National Day of Service project at the Monday yielded $640 in donations, 908 food items, 527 personal care items, and 243 knitted hats, mittens or scarves for the , said librarian Janine Bauer.

The project has been the baby of Urbandale resident Jane Robinette, who has organized it beginning in 2009. 

This year library patrons could donate food or turn the canned food items in to pay off their library fines.

Knitters came and knitted hats, mittens, baby blankets and scarves to donate to needy families. Library patrons could donate knitted items, personal care items or food.

Eileen Boggess, director of the Food Pantry, said: "I think it's grown every year. We had two truckloads that were delivered already today."
