Officer Who Pulled Unconcious Teen To Safety To Receive Life-Saving Commendation

Officer Zac McDowell and ISU student Nick Schroeder will be honored by the Urbandale City Council.

The Urbandale Police officer who saved an unconscious teen from a burning car last week will be honored by the city.

Officer Zac McDowell and Iowa State University student, Nick Schroeder, will be honored for their heroic acts at the Urbandale City Council meeting Tuesday night.

McDowell and Schroeder, who was participating in a ride-along with McDowell, pulled 18-year-old Ian Waseskuk to safety after the teen crashed his car into a air conditioning unit at Urbandale Baptist Church on Sunday, March 10.

The Urbandale City Council, along with mayor Bob Andeweg, will recognize McDowell and Schroeder with live-saving commendations at 7 p.m. Tuesday at city hall.
