Where Does Urbandale's Allen Lazard Rank on Rivals Football Lists?

The J-Hawks junior, who has already committed to playing football for the Iowa State Cyclones, says Coach Paul Rhoads has no reason to worry.

Iowa State football fans can count on the J-Hawks' Allen Lazard becoming a Cyclone in a year.

Rivals.com Monday listed Urbandale High School junior Allen Lazard the top high school junior receiver in the nation, the Des Moines Register reports, and the 24th-best player regardless of position in the recruiting Class of 2014.

The 6-foot-4 Lazard drew recruiting interest from such powers as Ohio State, Nebraska, Oregon and Alabama throughout a season during which he caught 40 passes for 928 yards and 11 touchdowns.

But he told the Register he's firm on his plans to play for Coach Paul Rhoads in Ames.

“I’m sure some Iowa State fans could be concerned, but there’s no need to be,” Lazard told the newspaper. “There’s still a lot left in the recruiting process, but I’m committed.”

The ranking on the Rivals website generated Internet buzz about Lazard Monday.

During the past season Lazard was named to the Elite All State Football Team by the Des Moines Register, according to the Urbandale J-Hawks website. This was the second consecutive year Lazard was honored by the newspaper in this manner.
